With many people’s
minds on events happening in Germany Chesterfords hosted
Elsenham on a sweltering day would make fielding and bowling
a real test of endurance. Chesterfords lost the toss and
were put into the field, keen to atone for their poor early
performance against Essendon last week.
James Lipscombe and
James Pullen opened the
bowling after their impressive displays in the previous
match and did not disappoint. Both bowlers bowled a
consistent line and length suffocating the run rate of the
opposition who found it difficult to even profit from quick
singles due to the emphatic display by the fielding team.
Pullen took the first
wicket after a superb diving catch by Luke Claydon at point
and then shortly afterwards claimed his second with a miss
timed drive that Steve
Squares took obligingly at cover leaving
Pullen with figures of 2
for 36 off of 10. Lipscombe
was unlucky at the other end not to claim a wicket but
finished with 7 overs for 26 runs. It was neither of these
bowlers that really ripped through the Elsenham line up that
task was duly accepted by
Adam Miles who once again bowled a spell mixed with
pace, accuracy, aggression and intelligence to rifle through
the opposition. Miles
took the big wicket of Windsor for 27 after the batsmen
looked comfortable throughout his innings and then want on
to claim another 4 wickets for the loss of only 10 runs.
With David Perring
claiming two wickets at the other end, Elsenham last 8
batsmen only managed to score a total of 42 runs between
them finally reaching a total of 107 all out.
In reply newcomer
Luke Claydon and David
Lightning started off confidently and took advantage of
a wicket that was becoming easier to bat on.
Lightning was unlucky to
be sent back to the pavilion for 18 whilst Claydon looked
well set playing some truly magnificent shots that seemed to
knock the stuffing out of the opposition. Claydon’s timing
of the cricket ball was precise as he wielded total
dominance over the best that Elsenham could offer. Claydon
finished with 55 Not Out ably assisted by
Perring who scored a
quick fire 13 Chesterfords reached the required total with
11 overs to spare. A superb all round team performance with
Miles and Claydon proving
to be genuine match winners.
