Chesterfords latest fixture saw them travel to Sampfords to
try and revenge last years disappointment of being bowled
out for just 25. Chesterfords fielded a team with a blend of
experienced players and the ever enthusiastic colts. Having
one the toss the Sampfords skipper had no hesitation to put
Chesterfords into bat on a green tricky wicket. The opening
pair of D. Lightning and
P. Phillips got off to a steady start
putting on an opening stand that passed 50 before
P. Phillips
was bowled by C.Burrett for 17. The next batman to join
D. Lightning at the crease was a young up and coming star
L. Woodcock who battled away and withstood heavy pressure
from the opening bowlers and was bowled for 3. The fall of
this wicket brought the experienced
D. Perring to the crease
and he continued his early season form with an impressive 52
finding the boundary with ease.
D. Lightning played a gritty
innings and was unlucky to be given out for a well deserved
42. As the score moved onto 150 for 4 Chesterfords had
A. Miles and another raising star A. Lewis at the crease who
both batted superbly finding the gaps with some excellent
stroke play. A. Miles 26 and A. Lewis 11 both finished not out
and pushed Chesterfords final total to an impressive 179.
With an impressive batting display Chesterfords took the
field after the break with real optimism and looking to win
the game. Chesterfords opening attack of
M. Stokely (1-38)
and A. Miles (0-38) put the Sampfords openers under real
pressure bowling a tight and consistent line which paid off
and M. Stokely claimed the first Sampfords wicket. Sampfords
biggest threat was the hard hitting of C.Wisbey who had a
mixed innings of lucky edges, dropped catches and some
excellent stroke play. He passed his fifty and was
eventually caught on the boundary by a good catch for 91.
Two more promising colts showed there talent as they bowled
at a batman that was in good nick.
R. Taylor (2-30) and
R. Laird (0-20) bowled extremely well and was supported well
by W. Jackson (1-9) and
D. Lighting (1-30). Even though
Chesterfords fielded well especially the young colts the
early dropped chances gave Sampfords the chance to reach
there target with 3 overs to spare.
