Last year,
Chesterfords had ventured to Italy and played Idle cricket
club in Lodi. This year it was the turn of the men from Lodi
to travel down to the rec for an all day game in the sun.
The visitors invited
Chesterfords to bat after the toss, and Chesterfords openers
got off to a great start. James Lipscombe was in good form
as he clinically despatched the ball around on his way to
113 and he was ably supported by Luke Claydon (36), David
Perring (37) and Nadeem Mughal (30). Chesterfords amassed
265 runs in the first innings, although the Lodi bowler
Hasson returned bowling figures of 5 for 23 from 4 overs.
In reply, Lodi could
not really get used to the variable bounce of the
Chesterford wicket as Mark (2-30) and Shaun Stokley (3-17)
produced some outstanding intelligent bowling limiting Lodi
to 222 in their first innings with only Osbourne (66) and
Larkam (40) troubling the scorers
As is traditional at
a Chesterfords all day game, a rather sumptuous lunch was
had courtesy of Mrs Lipscombe and Mrs Perring, so the second
innings was curtailed to only 10 overs each. Chesterfords
captain Wazz Mughal brutally took apart the Lodi bowling as
he retired unbeaten on 52 in the 6th over.
Support came from Nadeem Mughal (16) and James Pullen (13)
as Chesterfords put another 102 on the board.
Facing a mountain of
runs to get, Lodi elected to get some batting practice in
scoring only 51 runs in reply, probably because they were
eager to get to the Plough for a well earned roast dinner.
A great day was had
by all, with Chesterfords coming out on top, but
international relations being the winner of the weekend.
