Mughal's Guns Blast Castle Away

Sunday 29:06:08

Chesterfords made the long trip to a new fixture at Castle Hedingham on a warm sunny afternoon. Winning the toss Chesterford skipper decided to bowl first on a lively looking pitch. Opening bowlers Sam Thake and Alex Marley made good use of the new ball and at times had the batsmen in real trouble.

Despite a tidy opening spell and some ridiculous LBW decisions from the umpires, Chesterfords only managed to take one wicket and the score raced onto 75 of 15 overs. A big partnership was forming along with regular boundries mainly thanks to Chesterfords skipper being hit for 24 off 1 over.

Ross laird bowled with control however it was the introduction of Mughal who bowled with pace and broke the partnership with a sharp catch behind the stumps by Jamie Kempner. Mughalıs excellent spell was well backed up by Steve Tapping who chipped in with a probing spell and J Perring who finished the innings off well. With wickets falling on a regular basis plus an fantastic run out by Ross Laird Chesterfords who looked like chasing 300+ at the start restricted Castle Hedingham to 220-8 of there 40 overs.

Chesterfords openers took the field looking for a solid start, however Mughal (52) had other ideaıs and Teeıd off from ball one smashing the ball to all parts with some fine stroke play, highlight hitting the pavilion roof. The run rate for the first 12 overs was outrageous with Chesterfords already onto an impressive 95. W, Mughal brought up his outstanding 50 in only 12 scoring shots and a total off 16 balls faced. Mughalıs opening partner Rob Paskins apart from suffering neck ache watching the ball fly to the boundary on countless times supported Mughal very well and made a solid

(29) before being caught. Two quick wickets one being Mughal saw the run rate drop however in form Jamie Perring (34) rebuilt the innings finding the gaps and took the score onto 150-4 with 15 overs to go. With the wicket of Perring falling it was up to Chesterfords young starlets Ross Laird (29 no) and Liam Woodcock (21) who showed maturity beyond there years with some excellent shots all around the park which guided Chesterfords to there target, although losing Woodcockıs wicket towards the end it was left to Sam Thake (15 no) and R Laird who reached the total with 5 overs to spare.

Chesterfords put in a good display with both ball and bat and they fully deserved there victory.
