On a warm sunny day Chesterfords were lucky enough
to travel to the picturesque ground of Great
Canfield again for the second time this year.
Chesterfords won the toss and batted first on a
hard, dry looking pitch. Openers Paul Phillips and
Tom Dowrick got off to a watchful start due to a
swinging ball. In the 5th over Chesterfords lost
T.Dowrick for only 5 which brought young Rob Paskins
to join his skipper at the crease. Both batsman
looked in good touch especially R. Paskins who
played some fantastic strokes all around the park.
Skipper P.Phillips (34) batted well and was well
caught at gully in the 19th over which ended a 50
run partnership between the two batsmen. R.Paskins
continued to look in impressive form and eventually
was bowled in the 26th over for a well made (41).
With 15 overs left and the score on 110 - 3
Chesterfords had wickets in hand to increase the run
rate which they did with the two experienced batsman
David Perring (17) and Wazz Mughal (42). Mughal
played a typically aggressive innings smashing
boundaries for fun which saw the total race onto 170
with 5 overs to go. Mughal's innings came to an end
being well caught in the deep which saw young
Richard Taylor (14) and Nick Dowrick (10 no)
together at the crease, both batsmen played some
excellent shots keeping the run rate going and with
a cameo in the last over from Brad Mchugh
Chesterfords posted a impressive 195 - 7 off there
40 overs.
Chesterfords display with the bat was well matched
by there bowlers as openers Tom Thake bowled a
fantastic spell of quick aggressive bowling
finishing with figures of 1 - 8 of 8. Alan Stokley
proved to be a handful taking 2 - 18 of 8 which left
Canfield on 30 - 3 after 12 overs. Young Richard
Taylor showed what a excellent young bowler he is
with a tidy spell of 0 -12 of 4 and Shaun Stokley
showed his brother how to do it taking 2 - 20 of 8.
Canfield found themselves up against it on 85 for 6
with 15 overs remaining still looking to bat the
overs out to claim a draw. Canfield produced a mini
fight back and only the introduction of pacey Wazz
Mughal taking 3 - 1 of 1.1 overs finished the game
off and Chesterfords won the match in the 36th over
not only due to an excellent bowling performance but
a fantastic fielding display as well.
