Chesterfords thrash Sampfords

Sunday 28:08:06

As one infamous party finished in Great Chesterford, another one was about to start down at the cricket field as Sampfords came to visit the Rec this weekend.

Chesterfords won the toss and elected to bat first on a drying flat wicket. Veterans Tim Lewis and Charles Gjertsen opened the innings, Lewis dragging a ball back onto his stumps in the first order allowed Tom Price to enter the game. Price and Gjertsen then proceeded to take the game into the their own hands as they put on 186 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership, Gjertsen providing the stability with Price providing the flamboyance. Price was eventually caught for 106 and Gjertsen fell in the 36th over for 101 having scored his maiden century. Some final overs slogging from Wazz Mughal and David Perring meant that Chesterfords posted a score of 301.

Sampfords started well, but good bowling from Adam Miles, Alex Lewis and later Tim Lewis removed all batting threat that Sampfords had early on. With the pace attack doing their part all that was left was for Adam Laird to pick up 3 wickets with his leg spin, and Nick Dowrick to take his first wicket for the club as despite several dropped catches and poor wicket keeping Chesterfords contained the opposition to only 160 runs resulting in a huge Chesterford victory.
