Chesterfords played host to Little Shelford
on a warm sunday afternoon. On winning the
toss Chesterfords had no hesitation in
putting Shelford into bat on a green seamer
friendly wicket. Opening bowlers Alan
Stokley (2 - 8 off 8)) and son Mark Stokley
(2 - 20 off 8) took advantage of the
conditions with a impressive opening spell
restricting Shelford to 9 for 2 of 6 overs.
With the fielders backing up the bowlers and
topped off with a cracking catch in the
slips by Steve Tapping Chesterfords
continued to take wickets and pile on the
pressure. Chesterfords change bowlers did
not relieve any pressure as Richard Talyor
(2 - 22 off 5) and Steve Tapping (1 - 12 off
4) swung the ball both ways. With wickets
falling on a regular basis the score moved
onto 60 - 6. Little Shelford produced a mini
fight back however Ross Laird (1 -12 off 2)
and James Case (2 - 8 off 2) finished the
innings off and Little Shelford finished 85
all out in the 29th over.
Chesterfords reply was a solid one with
openers Paul Phillips (40) and Shaun Stokley
(16) putting on 56 for the first wicket.
both batsmen played some free flowing
strokes all around the park and Chesterfords
looked set for a 10 wicket victory. With the
introduction of spin Chesterfords lost there
Skipper for a well made 40 and soon after
his opening partner followed which brought
Nick Dowrick (1 no) and Darren Jones (14 no)
together at the crease to finish the job and
reach the target in the 26th over.
